Troy Glaus beats a throw home (Bill Greenblatt, UPI Joel Pineiro was solid and he got plenty of run support as The Cardinals scored seven runs in the first two innings and beat Cincinnati 7-2.   Skip Schumaker, Rick Ankiel, and Troy Glaus were the offensive hereos.

Pineiro pitched seven innings and shut out the Reds on just one hit.  He got out of jam early in the first inning after allowing a lead off single to Corey Patterson and a walk to Jeff Keppinger.  After they both stole 2 nd and 3 rd , Piniero got Ken Griffey Jr. to strike out and then Brandon Phillips hit a grounder to Glaus and the Cards were able to run down Patterson and Keppinger for a double play and Pineiro escaped.

Schumaker led off the game for the Cards with a single, Adam Kennedy walked and Schumaker went to third on a fly out by Pujols.  Rick Ankiel doubled and Troy Glaus singled.  With two outs, Yadier Molina doubled in Glaus and the Cards were up 3-0.

They came right back out in the 2 nd , and got after Reds’ starter Johnny Cueto, as Schumaker, Kennedy, and Ankiel all singled with Glaus then driving in two runs with a double and scoring on an error and they young Cueto’s night was done giving up six earned runs in 1 2/3.

Anthony Reyes gave up a late two run homer to Adam Dunn in the 9 th .
