Earlier in the week, the Miami Dolphins signed Michigan offense tackle Jake Long and they will make him the number one pick in the 2008 NFL draft.  After Long was taken, the Rams then asked the NFL if they could talk with a couple of prospects.

The NFL shot down the attempt, saying the  Rams cannot open negotiations with the No. 2 overall pick before the draft.  Only the team with the number one pick may negotiate and sign a player before the draft.

The Rams may have started discussions with DE Chris Long of Virginia or DT Glenn Dorsey of LSU.
