The Kansas City Royals jumped out to a 4-0 lead but let it slip away as they were shaded 6-5 by the Oakland A’s Saturday afternoon at McAfee Coliseum in Oakland.

Jose Guillen had a big day at the bat for the Royals, driving in 3 runs and scoring a pair as he went 2-for-4.

Daric Barton and Ryan Sweeney were the hitting heroes for the Athletics. Barton went 3-for-5 with an RBI. He also scored a pair of runs. Ryan Sweeney had 2 hits and 2 runs batted in.

KC starter Zack Greinke wasn’t involved in the decision, He pitched 5 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 8 hits. Joel Peralta (0-1) allowed 2 earned runs on 2 hits in 1/3 of an inning to take the loss. Joey Devine (2-0) got the win for Oakland out of the bullpen. Huston Street picked up his 5th save.

The Royals (9-9) and A’s (11-8) wrap up their weekend series Sunday. Luke Hochevar (0-0), recalled from Triple-A Omaha, starts for KC against Oakland’s Dana Eveland (1-1).
