Brian Bannister allowed only 1 earned run in 5 innings of work as the Kansas City Royals shut down the Milwaukee Brewers 4-1 Friday night in the first of two-game inter-league exhibition series at Miller Park. Bannister scattered 6 hits, with the only run coming on a homer to J.J. Hardy in the bottom of the 5th.

Joey Gathright went 2 for 5 at the plate, driving in a run. Ryan Braun had a perfect night at the plate for the Brew Crew, going 4 for 4.

The Royals and Brewers wrap up their brief exhibition series Saturday afternoon at Miller Park, with Zack Greinke going to the mound for KC. Dave Bush gets the nod for Milwaukee.

The Royals open for real Monday afternoon at Comerica Park against the Detroit Tigers.
