Mark Mulder won't be ready until mid-May the earliest The Cardinals got some good news yesterday on starter Joel Pineiro’s MRI.  There is no structural damage to his shoulder, but there is a lot of swelling.  Pineiro will be shut down until Friday to rest his shoulder.  With so many question marks in that starting rotation, the Cardinals may look outside the organization.   They are having discussions with free agent pitcher Kyle Lohse.

Only Adam Wainwright and Braden Looper have spots secured in the rotation.  Anthony Reyes who missed a start from the flu will start today.  Assuming Pineiro comes back just fine, he’ll be the third starter with Reyes, Todd Wellemeyer and Brad Thompson battling for the 4 th and 5 th spots in the rotation.

Mark Mulder won’t be ready until middle of May at the earliest.  Chris Carpenter who threw off a mound yesterday for the first time is shooting for a July comeback.
