A report card issued by The Pew Center on the States on performance and service of state government gives Missouri an overall grade of B-Plus .
Neal Johnson, Director of Pew’s Government Performance Project says Missouri has moved up slightly since the last study was conducted in 2005, when it earned a grade of B.
In addition to the overall grade, each state received individual grades in the areas of: Money – financial management; Infrastructure – capital management; Information – information, technology and communication with citizens; and People – human resource management.
On the negative side, the study points to what it calls as archaic civil service laws as they pertain to workforce planning as a concern. Until 18 months ago, for instance, all applicants for office support assistant jobs were given a test that was written in 1982 and included questions about mimeographs and microfiche.
