Kansas City Power and Light has run into financial problems in building a 100-megawatt wind farm. The company says sub-prime mortgages and related problems have caused so many problems in financial markets that the company hasn’t been able to get the money needed for the farm.

The wind farm is part of a deal KCP&L struck with the Sierra Club a year ago in which the club dropped objections to construction of a new coal-fired plant near Weston. In return, KCP&L agreed to build 400-megawatts of wind power generation by 2012.
