College Baseball’s First Pitch This Weekend

February 25, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

For the first time, the NCAA had all schools open their baseball season on the same weekend.  It was a good weekend at that for Missouri and Missouri State.

The sixth ranked Missouri Tigers opened the season down in DeLand, Florida at the Stetson Tournament.  They beat UConn on Friday 7-1 , Michigan State 14-9 on Saturday, and the Tigers picked up their 2,000th program win on Sunday with a 9-5 win over Stetson .  In that game, sophomore pitcher Kyle Gibson struck out 10.  The Tigers play Central Florida on Monday.

The Bears start the season 3-0 with wins over three Dallas area schools.  On Friday, they beat Dallas Baptist 11-10.  DH, Ben Carlson 2 for 4 with 4 RBI.  Saturday, the Bears rallied with five runs in the 8th to beat Texas-Arlington 9-6, and completed the Metroplex sweep on Sunday beating Arkansas-Little Rock 14-8.  DH Carlson, 5 for 10 with 5 RBI for the weekend.
