Sweeney Signs With A’s

February 12, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

Mike Sweeney Mike Sweeney signed a minor league deal with the Oakland A’s on Sunday and will report to their training camp tomorrow.  Sweeney was in the Royals organization for seventeen years and was the face of the Royals organization.  He went from backup catcher to slugging first baseman to designated hitter and team captain.

Back and knee injuries cut into his playing time in the last five years and Royals management decided it was time to move into a different direction with the emergence of Billy Butler.

Click on the link to hear Royals Assistant G.M. Dean Taylor on KC’s decision not to have Mike Sweeney back.
