IRS Reminds Low Income Missourians of EITC

February 7, 2008 By admin Leave a Comment

February is here and tax preparers are seeing business pickup as many Missourians file their 2007 income tax returns. And the Internal Revenue Service is advising low-income taxpayers of the Earned Income Tax Credit .

Michael Devine in St. Louis, a media relations specialist for the IRS in Missouri and Kansas, says the EITC can provide low-income workers with quite a bit of cash – from $400 to $4,700.

More than 439,000 Missourians qualified for the Earned Income Tax Credit last year, cashing checks worth more than $842-million. The message from the IRS is that those entitled to the EITC can’t claim it unless they file income tax returns.

For more information go to the IRS web site or call the IRS at 800-829-1040.
