One of the would-be Republican candidates for Governor confirms she is a "no go."  Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson has announced she will not be a candidate to replace Governor Blunt, who announced last Tuesday that he will not seek re-election.

Emerson, who had indicated she might run, says she searched her soul during the last five days and decided to forego a run for Governor and will, instead, file for re-election from Missouri’s 8th Congressional District. She is leaving open the door to any possible future opportunity, but is not going to do it now.

Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder and State Treasurer Sarah Steelman have announced they are candidates for Governor.  Others who are considering entering the contest are Congressman Kenny Hulshof, House Speaker Rod Jetton (R-Marble Hill), Senator Charlie Shields (R-St. Joseph), and former House Speaker and current U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway.

Hulshof appeared at a Jefferson City event on Monday, but eluded reporters by slipping out of the building.
