Democratic governor candidate Jay Nixon doesn’t want to say his three years of campaigning and consistent leads over Matt Blunt in the polls is what has really forced Governor Blunt to end a re-election campaign. But he knows his efforts must have had some influence

However, if Governor Blunt wants to say that he’s pulling out of the race so he can spend more time with his family, that’s fine with Jay Nixon. If Governor Blunt wants to say that he does not feel the motivation for a campaign that he felt four years ago, that’s okay with Nixon too.

Nixon says he and his wife support the decision by Blunt and his wife to move back to civilian life next year.

But Nixon thinks his three years of campaigning and fund-raising…his continued leads in the polls….and the constant pressure he has applied to the Blunt administration could not be ignored. "We’d all be kidding ourselves if we didn’t say that the breadth and depth of our support…had a lot to do with this," he told a press conference conference shortly after Governor Blunt met with reporters to reiterate the reasons he has abandoned a re-election effort.
