Earlier this week the Blues sent back up goalie Hannu Toivenen down to their minor league team in Peoria to get some extra work since the Blues schedule would slow down a big allowing Manny Legace to carry the load.  Marek Schwarz was called up to back up Legace “just in case.”

Well, that just in case happened last night in Chicago.  Legace left after the first period with an arm injury.  Schwarz then gave up five goals on thirteen shots and the Hawks beat the Blues 6-1.

Legace has a sore arm and will be re-evaluated today.  Legace was sharp in the first period as Chicago came to play creating many scoring opportunities in the first, but the game remained tied after one period.  Chicago had a 2-1 lead after two periods and blew the game open, scoring four times in the third.

In the third period down 4-1, Blues coach Andy Murray pulled the goalie for six skaters, which the Hawks responded by scoring an empty net goal with 5:22 to play.
