Governor Matt Blunt (R-MO) has announced a plan to significantly increase funding for families struggling with autism.

The Governor’s budget recommendations will include $12.4 million in increased funding to support autism diagnosis and treatment. This new money to deal with autism would more than double the amount put aside last year and is designed, in large part, to help eliminate the wait lists for autism diagnosis and treatment.

The funding increases include $6.4 million to further reduce the waiting list for diagnosis and services for those under the age of 18, and $5 million for capital improvements at the Columbia-based Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders to be part of the $20 million being raised for a new state-of-the-art building to house the Center.
