It turns out that Jesse and Frank James not only were outlaws and killers – they also thumbed their noses at a lawsuit judgment. Old records recently found in Daviess County show the James boys still owe $223.50 to a man who won a lawsuit against them.

A man had sued them, claiming they stole a horse, saddle and bridle during the Gallatin bank robbery in1869. There are no records showing they ever paid it. In fact they denied even being in the county that day.
