Group of Republican Reps Wants Jetton to Step Down as Speaker

November 9, 2007 By admin Leave a Comment

Ten Republican members of the Missouri House of Representatives have told the Springfield News-Leader they are thinking of asking Speaker Rod Jetton to resign as Speaker in January. They’re angry that Jetton slipped a provision into a bill at the last minute that makes it easier for landowners to try to declare their holdings a village, a move that would put the area outside county government regulation.

One day after the bill went into effect, a Lebanon businessman who’s a friend of Jetton and a contributor to his campaigns filed a petition to turn 400 acres of land at Table Rock Lake into a village.

One other Republican who’s ticked off about the law is Governor Blunt. He has told county commissioners he’ll help repeal that provision next year.
