Defendant in Gateway to a Cure Trial Kills Himself

November 8, 2007 By admin Leave a Comment

The St. Louis fraud trial of Gateway to a Cure founder Lou Sengheiser comes to a sudden end with word that Sengheiser is dead. A federal judge sent the jury home, today, upon receiving word that Sengheiser had died. Police say the defendant in the fraud case had taken his own life.

The jury began deliberations Wednesday. Sengheiser had been accused of using funds from his spinal cord injury charity to pay personal debts. His body was found on the roof of Gateway to a Cure’s building in St. Louis County. He died of a single bullet wound to the chest, which police say was self-inflicted.
