McCaskill to Vote Against Mukasey Nomination

November 7, 2007 By admin Leave a Comment

The U.S. Senate is expected to vote, this week or early next, on the nomination of Michael Mukasey to succeed Alberto Gonzalez as U.S. Attorney General. And, Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) says she will vote against the nomination.

McCaskill is concerned about answers given by Mukasey to members of the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding an interrogation technique known as waterboarding which has been used with some suspected terrorists. She believes waterboarding is a form of torture which violates American and foreign laws.

During his hearing before the Judiciary Committee, Mukasey refused to agree with those who say waterboarding is illegal torture. Mukasey’s nomination passed the Committee on an 11-8 vote.

Senator Kit Bond (R-MO) has already stated his intention to vote in favor of the Mukasey nomination.
