The St. Louis-based Great Rivers Environmental Law Center has authorized the filing of a lawsuit against the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on behalf of the Missouri Parks Commission over AmerenUE’s request to rebuild the upper portion of the Taum Sauk reservoir in Reynolds County.

Great Rivers’ General Counsel Bruce Morrison says FERC has not done an adequate job of considering the environmental impact of the project. Great Rivers says the Taum Sauk plant is an industrial facility in the midst of a scenic and natural landscape.

The organization fears once Ameren spends millions and millions of dollars to rebuild Taum Sauk, it will be almost impossible for FERC to refuse a request to re-license the faciliity. Great Rivers wants the project stopped before the rebuilding gets underway in earnest.
