The coalition of school districts that sued the state over the school funding formula will appeal a lower court decision to the State Supreme Court.

The Committee for Educational Equality, which is made up of more than 200 school districts, believes the ruling issued by Cole County Circuit Judge Richard Callahan regarding the 2005 formula is in conflict with a 1993 school funding decision and a 1977 Supreme Court ruling regarding public education.

Van Buren School Superintendent Jeff Lindsey, Chairman of the Committee for Educational Equality, says the plaintiffs owe it to the public school children of this state to appeal the lower court’s decision to the Missouri Supreme Court.

The Committee first filed suit in 2004, claiming the funding formula in existence at that time was unequal and inadequate.  It has the same opinion of the formula approved by the General Assembly in 2005.
