A judge in Jefferson City has ruled on the second part of the legal challenge to the constitutionality of Missouri’s school funding formula.

Cole County Circuit Judge Richard Callahan has rejected arguments from the plaintiffs – more than 200 school districts – that the state is not meeting its constitutional requirement to spend at least 25 percent of revenues on public schools.

In August, the same judge rejected the plaintiffs’ arguments that the funding formula was both inadequate and unequal. The school districts will have to decide whether to appeal these decisions to the State Supreme Court.
