Blunt Calls for Funding to Assist Sexual Assault Victims

October 17, 2007 By admin Leave a Comment

Governor Matt Blunt (R-MO) is traveling the state, today, announcing what he is calling one of his biggest budget priorities for the coming year.

He’s going to call on the Legislature to make available more than $2.3-Million to cover medical exam costs associated with rape or sexual assault. Blunt says the funding of such things as so-called "rape kits" will ensure that sexual assault victims will not be further traumatized by having to pay for the medical exams needed to chase down the attackers.

Bipartisan legislation changing state laws regarding the costs of exams had already been passed and signed into law. This recommendation for supplemental funding is intended to cover the costs for the next two years.
