State Senate President Pro Tem Michael Gibbons (R-Kirkwood) ends the speculation and makes official his candidacy for Missouri Attorney General . Gibbons, an attorney, started his political career with election to Kirkwood City Council in 1986, served eight years in the Missouri House, then moved to the Senate. He says his experience makes him well suited to the position of Attorney General.

Gibbons graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Westminster College in Fulton in 1981, then earned his law degree at Saint Louis University School of Law, graduating in 1984.

Gibbons is the only Republican in the race. There had been speculation that former Missouri House Speaker and current U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway would run, but she opted to remain in her current post. Gibbons says he had decided to run, no matter what, but adds things will be smoother with Republicans able to rally around one candidate. Current Attorney General Jay Nixon is running for Governor.
