A stand off in Springfield last night turned into an apparent suicide. Lieutenant Jay Huff with the Springfield Police Department says officers came up against what they thought was a drunk driver; as it turned out, when he was pulled over, he got out of the car with a shotgun and threatened to kill himself. The man then got back in his car, and despite the use of dogs, bean bag shots, and a round fired from an officer’s handgun, he would not come back out. A muffled shot was heard from inside the car, and the man was discovered dead inside, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A full investigation has been launched.
