The plot thickens with the St. Louis Cardinas.  Cardinals president Bill DeWitt is publicly saying Tony LaRussa needs to give the team a decision on his future soon.  The St. Louis Post-Dispatch   is reporting LaRussa is saying he’s not ready to give an answer yet, when the team doesn’t have a General Manager, the one person that Tony LaRussa would be working closely with.  He brings up a great point, plus he’s had this situation before, when he managed the White Sox in 86 and it turned sour and he doesn’t want that to happen again.  DeWitt and LaRussa have spoken to each other. I think you have to start at the top and work your way down.

Going back to 1986, LaRussa was the manager of the White Sox when Ken "The Hawk" Harrelson was named GM.  Yes, the same Harrelson who is the announcer.  Anyway, he didn’t see eye to eye with LaRussa and shortly after the season started, LaRussa was gone.  No fault to LaRussa.  To give you an idea of how bad Harrelson was as a GM, he once experimented with putting the great catcher Carlton Fisk in left field.

It will be interesting to see who budges first…does LaRussa give the Cardinals an answer or do they hire and GM?  Is LaRussa waiting to see what happens with Joe Torre in New York?
