The Kansas City Royals scored 3 runs in the 1 st inning and 2 more in the 2 nd for all the runs they would need as they downed the Tigers 7-4 Saturday night at Comerica Park in Detroit.

Mark Grudzielanek was the hitting hero for the Royals, going 4 for 5 at the plate, scoring 3 runs and driving in a pair of runs. Mike Sweeney and Emil Brown each had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Curtis Granderson had 3 hits for the Tigers, including his 23 rd home run of the season.

KC starter Kyle Davies (7-14) pitched 5 1/3 innings for the win, allowing 3 earned runs on 9 hits. Detroit starter Kenny Rogers (3-3) gave up 5 runs, 3 of them earned, on 8 hits in 6 innings to take the loss.

The Royals (67-87) and Tigers (84-71) wrap up their weekend series Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park. Jorge De La Rosa (8-11) takes the mound for Kansas City against Detroit’s Justin Verlander (17-6).
