Tigers Edge Royals 5-4

Billy Butler The Kansas City Royals jumped out to a 4-0 lead but couldn’t hold the lead as the Detroit Tigers bounced back for a 5-4 win Friday night at Comerica Park.

Billy Butler and Jason Smith each had a pair of runs batted in for the Royals. Smith’s 2 RBIs came on a 2-run homer in the 2 nd inning.

Sean Casey drove in 3 runs for the Tigers, all coming on a 3-run home run in the 5 th inning.

Tim Byrdak (2-0) pitched 4 shutout innings in relief for the win. Todd Jones allowed 1 hit in an inning of work to pick up his 38 th save. Leo Nunez (2-4) gave up 2 runs in 1/3 of an inning to take the loss.

The Royals (66-87) and the Tigers (84-70) play again Saturday afternoon in the Motor City. Kyle Davies (6-14) takes the mound for Kansas City against Detroit’s Kenny Rogers (3-2).
