The St. Louis Cardinals snap a 9 game losing streak, holding on to edge the Chicago Cubs 4-3 in the second game of a day/night doubleheader Saturday at Busch Stadium. The Cubs won the opener 3-2.

Alfonso Soriano hit his 27 th home run for the Cubs in Game 2 to go with his 26 th in Game 1. The Cardinals picked up all their runs in the 3 rd inning.

Pitching was the key to the St. Louis victory. Starter Joel Pineiro (6-4) pitched 7 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits. Jason Isringhausen pitched a scoreless inning to earn his 29 th save. Sean Marshall (7-8) gave up 4 runs, 2 of them earned, on 6 hits in 2 2/3 innings to take the loss.

The Cardinals (70-77) and Cubs (77-72) wrap up their weekend series Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium. Mark Mulder (0-2) takes the mound for the Redbirds against Chicago’s Jason Marquis (11-8).
