Transportation Department Erects New Signs

September 13, 2007 By admin Leave a Comment

The state transportation department is setting up automated message boards along Interstates 70 and 44 to tell motorists about road conditions ahead. The same signs can alert motorists to Amber Alerts.

The first one has gone up near Columbia.

Four dozen of the boards are being installed. The signs are one of three things the department is doing to upgrade its information system for travelers. l

The department also is upgrading its toll-free service to make it a 24-hour operation. It’s also changing its Traveler Information Map on theinternet to show work zones, road closings and weather-related conditions.

Download Transportation Director Pete Rahn at the unviling of the first sign.
