Cardinals Lose The Entire Road Trip

September 13, 2007 By admin Leave a Comment

The Cardinals go 0 for the road, their worse road trip in 35 years.  The Cardinals comeback in the 9 th falls short and the Reds win 5-4.  Starter Kip Wells unable to make it through the 5 th inning.    Albert Pujols drove in two of the Cardinals’ runs with two sacrifice flies. Jim Edmonds drove in Pujols in the ninth with an RBI single.

With the score tied at one in the bottom of the fifth, the Reds blew the game open.  After an intentional walk put two runners, Joey Votto hit a two run double to straight away center.  Catcher David Ross would hit a two run homer in that same inning and that was enough for Wells.  The Cardinals chipped away at the lead, but Rick Ankiel flew out to right with Edmonds representing the tying run.

If the Cubs and/or Brewers win tonight, the Cardinals will fall to 5 back in the division race.  The Cubs come to St. Louis tomorrow with four games over the weekend.  Adam Wainwright takes on Carlos Zambrano tomorrow.
