The heat-related death of a 19-month-old Kansas City girl in late July is now considered a homicide.

The girl died three days after she was left in a hot car for 12 hours.  Police say the mother of Ariana Hughes and another relative had returned home after shopping and each thought the other had taken the girl out of the car.  She was found the next morning.  Her mother originally claimed she found the girl in bed, unresponsive.

The police department has sent the case to the prosecutor.
