Another Cutback Hits Interstate Bakeries

August 29, 2007 By admin Leave a Comment

Kansas City’s struggling Interstate Bakeries is making another big cutback. It’s gong to close four bakeries in southern California and get rid of 1,300 employees.

The company says a confrontational relationship with one of its unions as well as high costs and weak pricing are behind the closings. IBC also says its bankers are running out of patience with company efforts to get unions to buy into its business plan. Interstate Bakeries, which makes Wonder Bread and Hostess products, has been in bankruptcy for three years.
