The St. Louis Rams are 1-1 in the NFL Preseason after dropping a 30-13 decision to the San Diego Chargers Saturday night under the Dome in St. Louis.

The Chargers struck first in the 1 st quarter when Philip Rivers tossed a 5 yard touchdown pass to Vincent Jackson, capping a 10 play, 71 yard drive. Nate Kaeding kicked the extra point to give the Chargers a 7-0 lead.

The Bolts went up 14-0 in the 2 nd quarter when Darren Sproles returned an 81-yard punt for a TD, with Kaeding converting.

Kevin Lovell gave the Rams their first points of the night on a 44-yard field goal with just seconds remaining in the 1 st half. That cut the Chargers’ lead to 14-3 at the midway point in the contest.

Lovell struck again in the 3 rd quarter with a 42-yard field goal to further narrow the gap. That’s how the 3 rd quarter ended: Chargers 14, Rams 6.

San Diego scored a major early in the 4 th quarter. Scott Chandler caught an 8-yard pass from Billy Volek. The convert attempt was unsuccessful and the Chargers led 20-6.

St. Louis then scored its first and only TD of the night with 8:32 remaining. Marques Hagans scored on a 7-yard pass from Gus Frerotte, with Lovell making good on the extra point attempt to bring the Rams to within a converted touchdown. But that was all the scoring St. Louis would have on the night.

The Chargers got back those 7 points when Germaine Race ran it into the end zone from 13 yards out and Kaeding booted the extra point to put San Diego back on top by 14. Kaeding then rounded out the scoring on a 22-yard field goal with less than a minute to play to give the Chargers the 30-13 win.

At quarterback, Gus Frerotte was 16 of 22 for 187 yards and 1 touchdown pass. Marc Bulger completed 8 of 12 passes for 79 yards, throwing 1 interception. Brock Berlin was 2 of 4 for 20 yards in the passing department. He also threw an interception.

Game 3 of the Rams’ exhibition season goes Friday night against the Raiders in Oakland.
