Marco Scutaro went 4-for-4 with 2 runs batted in, including his 7 th home run of the season, as the Oakland A’s downed the Kansas City Royals 6-1 Sunday afternoon at McAfee Coliseum in Oakland. The win by the Athletics prevents a sweep by the Royals, who had won the first two games of the weekend series.

Dan Johnson homered, as well, for the A’s, his 12 th of the year. Joey Gathright had 3 hits in 3 trips to the plate for the Royals – half the team’s hit total on the day.

A’s starter Lenny DiNardo (8-6) surrendered 1 earned run on 5 hits in 8 innings to earn the victory. Kyle Davies (5-10) allowed 2 earned runs on 6 hits in 5 innings to take the loss.

The Royals (55-68) move onto Chicago to open a series with the White Sox Monday night. Gil Meche (7-11) takes the mound for K.C. against Chicago’s Mark Buehrle (9-8).
