Ankiel Hitting Hero as Cards Dump Dodgers

August 11, 2007 By admin Leave a Comment

Rick Ankiel went 3 for 4 with a pair of home runs – a 2-run homer and a solo shot – to propel the St. Louis Cardinals to a 6-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday afternoon at Busch Stadium. It was Ankiel’s second and third home runs since being recalled to the Redbirds from Triple-A Memphis.

Jim Edmonds and Aaron Miles each had a pair of hits. Edmonds drove in a couple of runs.

St. Louis starter Braden Looper (10-9) pitched 6 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits, while striking out 3 to pick up the win. L.A. starter Derek Lowe (8-11) went 6 innings, giving up 5 runs, 3 of them earned, on 7 hits to take the loss.

The Cardinals (54-60) and the Dodgers (60-56) wrap up their weekend series Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium with the rubber game. Anthony Reyes (1-11) takes the mound for the Royals against the Dodgers’ Mark Hendrickson (4-6).
