The St. Louis Rams win their first National Football League preseason contest, downing the Minnesota Vikings 13-10 at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

After a scoreless 1 st quarter, Ryan Longwell put the Vikings on top with a 30 yard field goal. The Rams then took the lead on a Brian Leonard 10 yard touchdown run, with Ken Lovell picking up the extra point as St. Louis led 7-3 at the half.

Minnesota pulled ahead in the 3 rd quarter as Dontarrious Thomas returned an interception 82 yards for a touchdown, with Longwell booting the extra point.

In the 4 th , a pair of Lovell field goals gave the Rams all the scoring they would need. The first, a 39 yarder with under two minutes play that tied the game at 10-10. Lovell then struck from 40 yards out as the clock ran out to give St. Louis the win.

St. Louis quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 13 of 21 passes for 117 yards.

The Rams’ next preseason game is Saturday, August 18 th , when they host the San Diego Chargers under the Dome.
