The New York Yankees snapped a 1-1 tie with 2 runs in the 4 th inning and went on to down the Kansas City Royals 7-1 Friday night at Yankee Stadium in New York.

Alex Rodriguez went 1 for 3 for the Bronx Bombers, but failed to hit his 500 th career home run. The game’s only roundtripper came off the bat of Robinson Cano, who belted his 11 th home run in the 2 nd inning.

New York starter Chien-Ming Wang (13-5) allowed only 1 earned run on 7 hits in 7 innings of work to earn the victory. KC starter and losing pitcher Odalis Perez (6-10) went 5 innings, giving up 4 earned runs on 8 hits.

The Royals (48-60) and Yankees (59-50)  resume their weekend series Saturday afternoon in the House that Ruth Built. Kyle Davies (4-8) makes his Kansas City debut against Phil Hughes (1-1) for New York.
