The Kansas City Royals fail to take advantage of a fine Gil Meche pitching performance as they lose 3-1 to the Minnesota Twins Monday night at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

The Royals, who had won four games in a row, got behind early as the Twins scored twice in the bottom of the 1 st .  Kansas City got one on the 5 th , but that was all the scoring the Royals could muster as the Twins went on to add an insurance run in the 8 th to secure the victory.

Kansas City starter and losing pitcher Meche (7-8) gave up only 2 earned runs on 7 hits in 7 innings of work. Minnesota starter Scott Baker (5-4) allowed only 1 earned run on 2 hits in 8 innings to earn the win. Reliever Joe Nathan pitched a perfect inning to pick up his 23 rd save.

The Royals (47-58) and Twins (54-51) resume their four game series Tuesday night at the Metrodome. Jorge De La Rosa (8-10) goes to the mound against Minnesota’s Carlos Silva (8-11).
