The annual convention of the National Urban League hears from four of the people who want to be the next President of the United States. Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY), Senator Barack Omaba (D-IL), former Senator John Edwards (D-NC), and Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) journeyed to St. Louis to address those attending the event.
For the most part, the candidates – who each spoke for about a half hour – addressed domestic issues including healthcare, education, and poverty in the inner city. All four endorsed the National Urban League’s 10-point "opportunity compact," which includes mandatory early childhood education and guaranteed access to college.
No Republicans spoke to the attendees, but former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (R-AR), who said he had a scheduling conflict on Friday, did meet with Urban League officials Thursday night. The convention concludes Saturday.
