New York starter Chien-Ming Wang (11-5) pitched 6 innings for the win, allowing 4 earned runs on 7 hits. Kansas City starter Scott Elarton (2-4) lasted only 1 2/3 innings, giving up 7 earned runs on 6 hits to take the loss.

The Royals (43-56) and the Yankees (53-46) continue their series Wednesday night at the K. Gil Meche (7-6) goes to the hill for the Royals against the Yanks’ Mike Mussina (4-7).
