Cardinals Double Braves 4-2

Adam Wainwright pitched 7 strong innings, giving up only 1 earned run, to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-2 win over the Braves Fridan night at Turner Field in Atlanta.

Juan Encarnacion went 2 for 4 with 2 runs batted in. Albert Pujols went 2 for 3, hitting his 21 st home run of the season.

Wainwright (9-7) scatted 6 hits while striking out 7 batters to earn the victory. Jason Isringhausen pitched 1 inning, surrendering 1 earned run, to pick up his 19 th save. Rafael Soriano (2-2), who came in in relief of Atlanta starter Chuck James in the 8 th , gave up 2 earned runs on 4 hits to take the loss.

The Cardinals (44-49) and Braves (51-46) continue their series Saturday night at Turner Field. Braden Looper (7-7) pitches for St. Louis against Atlanta’s Buddy Carlyle (4-2).
