The Missouri Chamber of Commerce begins a series of ten forums to help Missouri manufacturers take advantage of a new energy and chemical exemption, contained in Senate Bill 30 , which goes into effect on August 28th.

Chamber President Dan Mehan says the ten forums, in all areas of the state, are designed to publicize the benefits contained in the legislation. The legislation will exempt manufacturers from state sales taxes on electrical energy, gas, water, coal, and other energy sources, as well as chemicals used in the manufacturing process. Machinery, equipment, and materials used for research and development related to manufacturing are also covered by the exemption.

The ten stop tour begins today in Jefferson City, with future forums planned for Kansas City, St. Joseph, St. Louis, Cape Girardeau, Springfield, and Joplin. Businesses will be informed of the chemicals and materials that qualify for the tax break.

Those wanting to take advantage of the utility exemption will have to fill out applications with the Department of Revenue and will be instructed as to how to do so.
