Juan Encarnacion belted a three-run homer in the 6 th inning to give the St. Louis Cardinals all the runs they would need as they edged the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 Thursday night at Busch Stadium. The victory gave the Redbirds three wins in the four game series against the Snakes.

Each team was held to 7 hits on the night. Cards’ starter and winning pitcher Adam Wainwright (7-7) went 7 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits. Jason Isringhausen pitched 1 scoreless inning to pick up his 17 th save of the season and his second in as many nights. Doug Davis (5-10) gave up 3 earned runs on 7 hits in 7 innings of work and was tagged with the loss.

The Cardinals (39-43) open a weekend series with Barry Bonds and the San Francisco Giants Friday night at Busch Stadium. Mike Maroth (5-2) goes to the mound for the Cards against San Francisco’s Noah Lowry (8-6).
