Cards Dumped by Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks get home runs from Chris Young, Mark Reynolds, and Chad Tracy as they bomb the St. Louis Cardinals 7-1 Tuesday night at Busch Stadium.

Cardinals starter and losing pitcher Todd Wellemeyer (2-2) lasted only 3 innings, giving up 6 runs – 4 of them earned – on 7 hits. Arizona starter Yusmeiro Petit (1-1) pitched 5 1/3 innings for the win, surrendering 1 earned run on 5 hits.

Albert Pujols had 3 hits for the Redbirds in 3 official trips to the plate, improving his batting average to .316.

The Cardinals (37-43) and the Diamondbacks (47-38) play again Wednesday night at Busch Stadium. Brad Thompson (6-3) goes to the hill for the Cards against Livan Hernandez (5-5) for the Snakes.
