Kansas City Police Chief Jim Corwin wants to fire an officer who shoved his nightstick into the mouth of a handcuffed man last November. The officer believed the man was hiding crack cocaine in his mouth. A police car dash-cam shows the officer also choked the man and pushed his face against the hood of the car.

Officer Anthony Melkowski was suspended with pay May 29. His status has changed since and he is on unpaid leave pending a decision by the city police board to fire him. Corwin announced his recommendation to fire the officer Tuesday when he released the video of the incident.
