Lake Developer Pleads Guilty to Tax Charges

June 27, 2007 By admin Leave a Comment

A condominium developer at the Lake of the Ozarks has pleaded guilty to 14 charges that he did not pay withholding taxes from his construction workers, or file appropriate returns with the state. The charges had been filed more than a year ago against Michael G. Schlup. Prosecutors say many of the employees were undocumented workers.

The Attorney General’s office says it began investigating Schlup’s operation after learning one worker had died and several others had been seriously injured. An investigation found as many as 30 illegal aliens had been working on the project.

Schlup will be sentenced in October.
