Missouri Southern State University will not sign a code of conduct saying it will divulge any sweetheart deals it might have with student loan lenders. Attorney General Nixon wants universities to sign the code which prohibits university staffers from directing potential borrowers to lenders that share revenue with the schools or school finance officers. A spokesman for Missouri Southern says there’s no reason for the school to promise not to do something it already does not do.

Missouri Southern is in Joplin.

An earlier report on this website said Missouri State University in Springfield had refused to sign the code.  A spokesman for Missouri State says the school supports all of the principals of the agreement but is still negotiating with the Attorney General on some of the specific language of the code.  We apologize for the mistaken information.
