The Kansas City Royals salvaged the final game of the weekend series with the Milwaukee Brewers, winning 4-3 in 11 innings Sunday afternoon at Miller Park.

The winning run wasn’t exactly one for the highlight reel. Joey Gathright walked with the bases loaded in the top of the 11 th to score John Buck from third base, giving the Royals their margin of victory.

The Royals actually took a 3-2 lead into the 9 th inning, but Milwaukee’s Corey Hart tied it up with his 10 th home run of the season to send the game to extra innings.

David Riske (1-2) pitched 1 scoreless inning in relief to earn the win. Jimmy Gobble pitched a scoreless inning to pick up his 1 st save. Jose Capellan (0-2) took the loss.

The Royals (29-46) head to the West Coast to open a series with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The recently signed John Thomson (0-0) pitches for the Royals against L.A.’s John Lackey (10-4).
