Summer for many Missouri kids means swimming, playing with friends, and going to camp. For others, it could mean hitting the books. And, a University of Missouri-Columbia Education Professor says parents should probably consider giving the kids a bit of a break.

Dick Robinson says that while it’s a good idea to keep children on a learning curve through the summer months, parents should keep in mind that these kids have just come out of a lot of time in the classroom and should be allowed to be … kids.

Robinson says parents can give kids the best of both worlds by combining learning with fun. He suggests creating a home library, visiting places of historical interest, or playing word games and pointing out signs while traveling.
