Blunt Signs Bills Designating Official State Invertebrate and Reptile

June 21, 2007 By admin Leave a Comment

Governor Matt Blunt (R-MO) has signed several bills aimed at benefitting children. Among them, one that requiring comprehensive eye examinations for children entering kindergarten or first grade and vision screenings for kids entering the first and third grades.

But a bit of levity entered the signing ceremony as the Governor signed bills designating the official state invertebrate – the crayfish – and the official state reptile – the three-toed box turtle.

Schoolchildren who had been instrumental in pushing the creature designation legislation were in the Governor’s office for the bill signings.
